iPad Pro wins over Surface in popularity

Even though it wasn’t released until the middle of the last quarter, Apple sold 2 million units of its iPad Pro, exceeding sales of the Microsoft Surface, which came in at 1.6 million units for the quarter, according to IDC estimates. The research group called the iPad Pro the big winner in a sliding tablet market which fell 10 percent year over year.

iPad shipments slipped 24.5 percent compared to the year-ago quarter, when they totaled 21.4 million for 28.1 percent market share. The much slower iPad sales during the holiday season was most likely caused by the lack of an iPad Air refresh in 2015, but the iPad Pro still outsold Microsoft Surface tablets in its debut quarter in what IDC describes as a “successful” launch.

Apple is rumored to introduce a new iPad 3 at the March media event which will most likely take place Tuesday March 15th.
